September 11 2011
Well now... Seems a year and a half has slipped by between our last post and now. Compared to the madness that was 2009, 2010 was relatively quiet for The Nautical Miles. We stuck close to home and played shows with bands that we love. We had lots of dinner parties, dance parties and island retreats. We rehearsed occasionally. Tim traveled around Europe. Lucas moved to Ottawa. It was a good year.

Now we are well into 2011. We continue to play shows around BC when opportunities present themselves. Work has begun on the next cycle of songs. It is proving to be a slow process, but a really exciting one. We are looking forward to sharing new material with you in the months ahead.

In the meantime, check out the Events page for some new September show listings: a quick trip up to the Cariboo, followed by a show with our good friends Drawn Ship.

Onwards and upwards!

What a year, what a year.

We have completed "A Year In Song", our song blog. Each and every month in 2009, we have uploaded a new song to the site. They are songs that we've been playing for some time, but that didn't fit with our album Wartime Lovesong, which we released in June.

You can now visit the blog and hear them all: twelve months, twelve songs. In addition, each song is accompanied by a beautiful piece of visual art created by one of our friends.

December's song "Our Escape Plan Was Simple" is up now with artwork by Ehren Salazar. Listen! Download! Tell your friends!

And speaking of your friends, here are some gift ideas from us to you:

1) Download the complete A Year in Song collection for your parents and teach them how music files work.

2) Download the complete A Year in Song collection and burn it to a CD with hand made package for your luddite friends.

3) Order the complete Corbin Murdoch & the Nautical Miles CD anthology for $30 (shipping included)

Black Crow Project

Corbin Murdoch and the Nautical Miles are pleased to be a part of the Black Crow Project, a compilation CD in support of the Portland Hotel Society, a non-profit housing organization in Vancouver.

Some of our favorite local musicians also appear on the compilation including: Veda Hille, CR Avery, Jess Hill, Pawn Shop Diamond, Po Girl, and Sarah MacDougall. All of the songs on the compilation are about crows. Our song Crow O'clock from 'Tell me again how this place got its name' appears on the compilation.

It is available at Scratch, Highlife, Audiopile, Raya, and at the Eastside Cultural Crawl. 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Portland Hotel Society.

There will be a launch party for the Project on November 27th at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Unfortunately, Corbin is still in Toronto, so the Nautical Miles won't be performing; however, Sarah MacDougall will be performing Crow O'clock in our stead.

an absolute blast! A huge thank you to all those who came out to the
shows, promoted the gigs, gave us places to sleep, made us breakfast,
baked us cookies, played scrabble against us (better luck next time), and
offered us words of encouragement.

Check out the events page for our plans for the rest of the summer. These include a show with L. Abramson and The Buttless Chaps, as well as a return to Galiano Island.

See you 'round town.
